Most of our shutters are made from Basswood. Basswood is derived from the inner fibrous bark of the American Lenden tree, known as bast (Old English). It is by far the most widely accepted wood for quality interior plantation shutters.
Our wood comes solely from State Certified Forest Lands in the Upper Midwest which comply with both FSI and FSC standards.
Basswood accepts both stain and paint very well because of the fine even texture and straight grain. Our shutters are made to the same craftsmanship and attention to detail as fine wood furniture ensuring years of troublefree performance.

A very popular choice, Timber Ridge features a uniform smooth texture and is fairly straight grained with areas of mineral streaks, tiger stripes, and small character knots. Hidden tilt rods are positioned on the backside of the panel connecting the louvers together so that they move in sync.
The center tilt rod is traditional and therefore looks best with more traditional décor, and hidden tilt with a transitional or modern look. A modern home with high ceilings and bigger windows looks best with a larger louver size and hidden tilt.

Our most popular and durable sliding glass door covering, Bypass Shutter Track Systems allows shutter panels to slide past each other on top tracks to cover or uncover your windows.
The trouble free shutter panels are offset so one panel slides in front of the other (just like your glass doors) for easy operation of the door. Or with enough wall space, the top track can be extended so the panels stack off the glass.
In order to ensure the panels can traverse back and forth with their louvers open, we fabricate an Open Bypass Sliding Shutter. The tracks and panels are spaced slightly farther apart to ensure the panel's louvers can remain open no matter where you position the panels.

Alternate materials have been available for shutters for over 20 years. Originally created to make a cheaper shutter, nowadays plastic based materials (petroleum based) are generally more expensive than our premium Regal basswood shutters.
The beauty of wood is undisputed. Timeless classic styling has withstood the test of time and Basswood continues to be the most commonly used material for shutters! Exciting new styles offer unprecedented character and details.
Keep in mind there are also poorly constructed wood shutters that rank low on the quality scale. Look for a buttery smooth, well-sanded surface, rich satin gloss paint (not too bright or it will look like cheap plastic), mortise and tenon joints, a straight light hardwood like basswood, all metal magnets, and adjustable tension louvers that will stay in place for the life of the shutter. Always request to see a sample panel before committing to a shutter company. You wouldn't purchase a new car or a TV without touching, viewing, or test driving it. You shouldn't purchase shutters without seeing what will be installed in your new home - all shutters are not created equal.
